General Description:
Russian Intermediate Conversation is designed to help students who have completed Russian 8 (or who have the instructor’s permission) fine-tune their listening comprehension, speaking fluency, and accurate application of vocabulary and grammar points. Tailored to the group’s needs, class discussions will center on meaningful topics that help students clearly express their ideas. With steady participation, learners can look forward to finishing the course with noticeable progress in their conversational abilities, typically within the ACTFL Intermediate or CEFR A2–B1 ranges.
Communicative competence:
Students learn to deliver short speeches on a range of topics with growing accuracy, ease, and cultural nuance, whether that involves tone, phrasing, or idiomatic choices. As their listening comprehension deepens, students will become adept at understanding both spoken words and their implications. The course helps students gradually hone their instincts and nurture their confidence to more effectively navigate real-world settings. Authentic materials—articles, songs, videos, and more—give students a clearer sense of contemporary expressions used across Russian-speaking communities.
Grammatical competence:
Students will have frequent opportunities to reinforce grammar points they already know while acquiring new structures to further complement their expressions. Grammar instruction will be introduced in ways that align with the group’s needs and support their overall communicative goals.
